Denver Melanage — Melanage FAQs

What is the Melanage Peel Treatment?
The Melanage Skin Lightening Peel is an effective treatment for Melasma, pregnancy masque, sun spots and age spots in a non-invasive treatment. It is a superficial peel designed not only to treat hyperpigmentation, but to improve the texture and appearance of the skin. The treatment begins in the office and continues with an at-home regimen.

What should I expect from the treatment?
Melanage Masque is applied during an office visit where the clinician compounds the peel at the time of dispensing to ensure its potency and reliability. The patient’s hair should be tied back from the face to keep it free of the product. No discomfort is experienced and patients describe the procedure as soothing and relaxing. The patient leaves the office with the masque on their face, and the masque will remain on the face for 5 to 10 hours according to the patient’s skin type. Patients are then responsible for adhering to an easy-to-follow, at-home regimen involving the application of home care products provided at the treatment appointment.

What results can I expect?
Results vary but generally patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of Melasma and other pigmented areas of the skin. Hyperpigmentation will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve. Most but not all patients experience peeling skin.

What areas can be treated?
All skin areas can be treated.

How many treatments will I need?
For the Melanage Skin Lightening Peel, one to two treatment periods are recommended and can be repeated three to four months following the first treatment if necessary. Maintenance treatments are recommended following the two peels. The Melanage Mini Skin Brightening Peel is less aggressive than the Melanage Skin Lightening Peel. Three to four of the Mini Skin Brightening Peels are equivalent to one of the Melanage Skin Lightening Peels.

What happens if my skin doesn’t peel?
Don’t worry if your skin doesn’t peel after having a Melanage Peel because you are still receiving all of the benefits of the peel including collagen stimulation, improved skin tone and texture, reduction of fine lines and improved pigmentation.

Does the Melanage Peel work on all skin types?
Unlike some lasers, the Melanage Peel works on all skin types, including darker skin. Prior to the Melanage Peel, not all darker skin responded well to peels and lasers, because of the risk of hyper- or hypopigmentation. The Melanage Peels are a breakthrough for dark skinned patients for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, fine lines, tone and texture.
