What is Sculptra® and how does it work?
Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable material known as “poly-L-lactic acid.” Poly-L-lactic acid is biocompatible (a material that does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). Poly-L-lactic acid has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches, soft tissue implants, and other types of implants. Sculptra® stimulates collagen growth in the areas it is injected.
What should I expect after the treatment and is there down time?
Immediately after the treatment, you will see some swelling due to the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra®. As with any injection, you may have bruising from the treatment.
How long will the results last?
Treatment results may vary for each person. In clinical studies, treatment results lasted up to two years. Touch up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.
Is there anything I should avoid or do prior to my treatment?
We recommend avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, excessive alcohol, flax seed oil, fish oil, and vitamin E prior to your treatments. These products may increase the likelihood of bleeding and bruising. You may consider taking Arnica Montana, which has been shown to help reduce the likelihood of bleeding or bruising. Arnica Montana can be purchased over-the-counter where herbal products are sold.
